This is a good blog post on how to do cold calling for non-sales folks

Meebo was setup seven years ago. After raising more than 62M$ its being acquired by Google for 100M. Or at least thats what the rumor mill is saying now. That must be disappointing to the founders and employees of Meebo.

Meebo was one company which did pivots every few years or so. When they did the Meebo bar which was all about publishers leveraging their traffic to generate some money I thought this could be a pre-cursor to what FaceBook or others would do. FaceBook has started leveraging not only the traffic but the social connections. But unfortunately it looks like Meebo has run out of elbow grease, blood, sweat or money. Maybe it has run out of all of these. Anyway starting a company and getting as much traction as Meebo has got deserves respect. Just a bit sad that founders/employees could not have their big day.

started using Asana

UI is well thought out. Things which need to be one-click away are designed that way.

It can be adopted for multiple needs: Personal productivity tool, CRM, Bug Tracking, etc

Dislikes:

Had hoped that with this kind of tool i will not have to use words like “Workspaces”.

Nice intro to how to use Asana as a individual productivity tool: Ryan Carson’s blog

Google has a strong biz apps market place and many SMBs use it as opposed to being MS Office shops. But under Larry Page Google seems to be focussing more on search to the extent of having churn in the Google Biz Apps execs group. Recent Dave Girouard left Google. He was vice president of Apps and president of Google’s Enterprise business. Other execs have also left this group recently. Details in this article

This is one cut for the sake of focus that does not make sense to me. I can understand Picasa, Flu Vaccine Finder, One Pass, Patent search, etc being cut. But with increased drive space in Gdocs I thought Google was finally focussing to take on MS in online doc mgmt space. Sharepoint is still a 3B$ biz. Gdrive is also coming.

So why are folks leaving Google Apps unit in droves?

was blown away by the insight and its applicability. trying to digest it and apply it in various parts of my life.

Apple is aggressively pushing iOS 5 updates on devices. iOS 5 already is 20% of the traffic for many networks. Case in point is Chitika’s AD network.

Where as in Android’s case we have to wait for more than a year if you bought the device through one of its “partners” like Samsung/HTC/LG. This means even though Google has done the heavy lifting by releasing an updated OS it takes more than a year for the end user to benefit from it. It also causes platform confusion to developers developing on the Android platform. A good image to understand this:

Now what does this mean for a company like Microsoft when its main bread and butter is being eaten away by Apple, Google? How can my employer Salesforce.com benefit from it Cloud-only way of working?

Here is a worthy read where the CEO of Nintendo talks with the some team members of the original Wii Design and Development team. The conversation shows some light on how roadmap oriented enterprises sometimes can steer the organization towards delivering an experiences that is cherished by end users. Even though this talk might seem a bit contrived at some level I wish more such conversations are brought into the public domain.
